Hawaii Pacific University
HPU has two main campuses, Downtown Campus and Hawai'i Loa Campus. Downtown Campus is the largest and is located close to the CBD and Chinatown in Honolulu.
It has the majority of students and you will find most of the administration here. A little further north is the Hawaii Loa Campus, which has the School of Nursing and the College of Natural Sciences. Hawaii Loa Campus is located at the foot of the beautiful and famous Ko'olau Mountains. Shuttle buses between Downtown Campus and Hawai'i Loa campus normally take 15-20 minutes.
HPU offers competitive athletic programs with 10 teams competing in sports such as tennis, basketball, baseball and golf. The University has modern laboratories and class rooms are equipped with the latest in multimedia to make teaching as effective as possible.
Most students use the bus service in Hawaii. You can get around all Oahu by bus. For those who live in the Waikiki area the bus trip to the Downtown Campus takes at least 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. There are buses between Downtown Campus and Hawai'i Loa Campus.
HPU has student housing on the Hawai'i Loa campus, but it is a little far off if you are studying at the Downtown Campus. HPU works with businesses offering rooms in the Waikiki area. Usually these are shared rooms (3 people or more); you have to pay extra if you want a separate room. Most people therefore choose to find private housing with fellow students. It is advisable to find a place to stay after coming to Hawaii; you should therefore set aside a few days for house hunting. The majority of students live in the Waikiki area.
