University of the Sunshine Coast

Student life at University of the Sunshine Coast

USC is centrally located on the densely populated east coast of Australia, about 90 km north of Brisbane in the state of Queensland. Nearby towns are Noosa, Mooloolaba and Maroochydore. The campus is both close to world famous surf beaches and large nature reserves. In fact, the area is so open that it is not unusual to see kangaroos hopping around among the students on campus.

Facilities

The university campus is located in the heart of the Sunshine Coast, Sippy Downs. The award-winning building has several cafes, an art gallery, university library, bookstores, and reading areas in addition to lecture halls and classrooms. USC also has high standard sports and training facilities, including a large sports stadium, running track, ball fields and tennis and basketball courts.

Transportation

The bus company Sunbus has routes between the university campus and several destinations along the Sunshine Coast. Near campus there are trains (Rail-Bus) to e.g. Brisbane. The University recommends that students use the cycle and pedestrian paths to get around the area. These trails form a network that provides easy transport to nearby towns such as Sippy Downs, Buderim and Mooloolaba.

Housing

There are three apartment complexes connected to the campus at Chancellor Park:

  • Varsity Apartments
  • UniCentral
  • The Village

All apartments are furnished and have internet access. The apartments have four bedrooms (with bathroom and toilet) kitchen and living room are shared. The area also offers BBQ facilities, indoor and outdoor pools and tennis and volleyball courts. All three complexes are located within walking distance of campus.

The University can also help with housing if you want to live in other areas or some of the small nearby towns. Most European students prefer to find a private residence with other students near the beach and shopping.
